The RCN Foundation Charity Lottery is a weekly lottery run by the RCN Foundation, an independent charity that aims to support and strengthen nursing and midwifery to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation.
The RCN Foundation is part of the RCN Group but is a separate charity organisation (registered charity number: SC043663 (Scotland) 1134606 (England and Wales) and has no involvement in trade union activities.
The lottery aims to raise vital funds to support the RCN Foundation’s grant making activities by supporting the growing number of nurses, midwives and healthcare support workers seeking financial support and educational development opportunities.
Each ticket costs £1. At least 60p from every £1 ticket you buy will be spent on supporting the good causes of the lottery. The remainder is spent on prizes and on the administration of the lottery.
Players on a monthly subscription will pay £5 per month. For months with only four lottery draws, the player will receive additional entries into either that month's Super Draw or the final draw in their payment period if there is no active Super Draw. A player's additional tickets will be visible within the Your Tickets section of the website.
The lottery is only open to RCN members and RCN Group staff in England, Scotland and Wales only, as there are different lottery regulations in Northern Ireland.
Northern Ireland is governed by separate lottery legislation (the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (NI) Order 1985) which places stricter limits on charity “society lotteries” than the rest of the UK. As a result, large charity lotteries like ours are not permitted to operate or sell tickets there, meaning NI‑based RCN members and RCN staff cannot take part.

Unfortunately, we can't accept payments for a single week as payment processing costs would impact the amounts we could provide to prizes and the lottery fund.
The money raised from our lottery means we can do so much more to support the financial needs of nursing and midwifery staff across the UK facing hardship, as well as supporting with professional development, improving patient care. Ultimately this means we can help more nurses, midwives and healthcare support workers remain in the profession. Money raised will also fund innovative research projects like the creation of the first UK Chair in Adult Social Care Nursing, funding postdoctoral bridging fellowships as well as creating free online open courses.
Of the £1 entry ticket, 60p will contribute to our grant making programmes, 20p will assist the running costs of the lottery and the remaining 20p will go towards the prize pot.
Each week there are guaranteed winners, with the prize amounts increasing the more people play. Click here to see an example of the potential prize structure.
