From abseiling, mountain climbing, to sponsored walks – we’ve seen it all!

Fundraising doesn’t necessarily mean challenging yourself to breaking a Guinness World Record like Colin or Rowena (although we wouldn’t mind!), you could run 10K, organise a bake sale or even take part in a charity football tournament.

2025 supporters

  • Bridie ran both the London and Vancouver Marathon, just a week apart!
  • Kevin will be climbing Machu Pichu and raising funds for the RCN Foundation whilst he takes on the hike
  • Rowena became the first UK nurse to climb Mount Everest
  • Tom successfully completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon, despite the warm weather!

The fundraising options are endless, but if you’re stuck for ideas, we’ve helpfully put together an A-Z guide to get you started! Whatever way you'd like to fundraise, we'll support you all the way.

2026 and beyond...

Ella and Joel, both nurses, will be running the London Marathon 2026 in aid of the RCN Foundation. Find out more about what inspires them below and help them reach their fundraising goal.

Ella London Marathon

Ella, Staff Nurse

Ella is a newly qualified ICU nurse working in a major trauma centre. She describes the role as "incredibly rewarding, but also both emotionally and physically demanding" and uses running as a healthy outlet to help manage the stresses of the job and maintain her mental wellbeing. Over the past five years, Ella has completed an impressive seven half marathons and is ready to take on her next challenge: the London Marathon.

Ella is passionate about evidence-based practice and improving patient care through research and innovation. In 2024, she was proud to be nominated for RCNi Student Nurse of the Year, and has since contributed to several articles in the RCNi Journal, sharing reflections from practice.

"I’m excited to take on the London Marathon for the RCN Foundation, which feels like a natural extension of both my career and favourite hobby; combining the resilience and dedication I’ve developed as a nurse with a personal challenge that also gives back to the profession I care deeply about. As a nurse myself, I’m committed to strengthening our workforce and helping fund research and innovation to advance our professions."

Joel London Marathon

Joel, Workforce Nurse

Joel has built his career around supporting the nursing workforce - first as an educator and charge nurse, and now in a nursing workforce role focused on recruitment and retention. Supporting the nursing community and giving back is a core value of Joels, which is why he made the decision to move into a career in workforce - he wants to help colleagues feel valued and supported in their everyday work, not just in moments of need, but throughout their careers. Joel is also an RCN representative and branch secretary and seeks to help create a culture in nursing that is fairer, kinder and more sustainable.

"I’m so proud to be a nurse and supporting the people who care for others has always been close to my heart. Running the London Marathon for the RCN Foundation is my way of giving something back to the nursing community that gives so much to others. The Foundation does incredible work – from helping nurses through tough times to supporting their learning – and I want to do my bit to make sure nurses have someone to turn to when times are tough and get the support they deserve throughout their careers. For me, it’s about honouring my profession, raising awareness of the charity that’s there for us when we need it most, and challenging myself along the way."

Having previously completed the Hackney Half Marathon twice, this will be his first marathon. Support Joel to reach his fundraising goal.
