Our nurses can't wait any longer. They need help now.

We are the RCN Foundation, an independent charity that provides hardship grants to UK nurses and midwives, and helps them get counselling and training, so they can keep doing the jobs they love.

In an ideal world, there’d be no need for a charity like ours, and no need for you to support it. Sadly, we live in the real world. A world where nurses and midwives are under resourced, burnt out by stress, and leaving the profession at the rate of 110 a day.

In 2022, an NHS staff survey found that:

  • 50% of all registered nurses and midwives felt unwell due to work related stress
  • Many struggled to pay for heating, clothing and food, with 14% using food banks.

You may think that the new government should be dealing with this crisis. But the truth is, it's unlikely that such a dire situation can be fixed overnight. And with more than 40,000 nurses leaving the profession every year, we are losing their valuable skills - that we all depend on – at an alarming rate.

It’s time to take action now to support our nurses and midwives in crisis: to care for those who care for us. Will you be there for them?

What your gift today will mean to a nurse or midwife in crisis

  • £5 will help provide hardship grant to a nurse or midwife facing financial difficulty
  • £20 will help a nurse or midwife with a long-term illness
  • £50 will help provide combined financial and mental health support to a nurse of midwife suffering with crippling stress.

Please donate today to help our brilliant nurses and midwives.

One day, they will surely repay you.

"Getting the hardship grant has given us light to look forward to, at the end of a very dark tunnel."

In 2021, Lily, a registered nurse, and her two children were made homeless by their landlord through a no fault eviction. Lily received a hardship grant from the RCN Foundation to help her get back on her feet, which meant she could keep doing the job she loves and find her forever home with her children.

Lily's story:

We rely on donations from the public to provide hardship grants to nurses like Lily. Your generosity will help us to support more nurses in need and make a lasting difference.
