RCN Foundation, part of the RCN Group, is an independent charity whose purpose is to support and strengthen nursing and midwifery, to improve the health and wellbeing of the public. We do this by providing grants for hardship, education and research. The privacy of individuals whose data we collect is important to RCN Foundation and we align our processes with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act (2018). 

How we collect information and why

We collect information about you in the following ways:

  • Information you give us. For example, when you apply for an education grant or a hardship grant, post information on our social media or message boards, make a donation to us, register for an event or otherwise provide us with personal information.
  • Information we get from your use of our website and services. We collect information about our online content that you use and how you use it, like when you watch a video on YouTube, visit our websites or view and interact with our ads and content.
  • Information from known third parties. We may also receive information about you from our third party partners with whom you choose to interact, for example websites such as JustGiving when making a donation or Facebook.
  • Information available publicly. We may include information found in places such as Companies House, LinkedIn and information that has been published in articles/newspapers. 

What we do with your information

We use your personal information for several purposes including the following:

  • To provide you with the services, products or information you have requested;
  • To provide information about our work, activities, volunteering or events; 
  • To process donations we may receive from you;
  • To fundraise; 
  • To create an account for you if you register with us;
  • To deliver products or services including grants to you;
  • To invite you to participate in surveys or research (although this is voluntary).

We collect, store and use personal information for the purposes set out above. This may include your name, address, telephone number, email address and, where applicable, your social media profile, your date of birth and taxpayer status for Gift Aid.

We may collect personal information to conduct supporter research, and this is on occasion through our existing network. For example, we may contact applicants who are successful in applying for one of our grants about opportunities to participate in marketing activity to promote the RCN Foundation grants.

We may also analyse information you provide to us with other freely available public information to create a profile of supporter interests, preferences and level of potential donations so that we can contact you in the most appropriate way and with the most relevant information.

If you provide your consent, we may send you direct marketing messages via email or share your information with third parties we work with. You can withdraw your consent through your membership or account preferences.

We may use cookies to tailor your experience on our website and for analytical purposes. Cookie banners will appear, and you are able to choose whether you want to allow performance, functional and targeting cookies. You can change your cookie preference through our website at any time.

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information only for as long as we need to use it for the purposes set out in this notice. For example, financial information, grants records and donation records are retained for 7 years.
