The RCN Foundation is delighted to launch a new Quality Improvement Grants for Sustainable and Greener Nursing and Midwifery Practice programme, supporting nursing and midwifery staff to lead projects that improve healthcare quality whilst reducing environmental impact.
Developed in partnership with Salt of the Earth Community Foundation and LV= General Insurance, the programme will fund practical, frontline-led quality improvement (QI) projects that address sustainability challenges within health and social care settings.
Grants of up to £2,500 are available for projects that demonstrate measurable environmental, clinical, workforce and organisational benefits. One grant within this programme is generously funded by Salt of the Earth Community Foundation and the other by LV= General Insurance. You do not need to be a member of the RCN to apply.
Who can apply?
This funding is open to:
- Registered nurses
- Registered midwives
- Registered nursing associates
- Health and support care workers
- Maternity assistants
Please note that it is not open to pre-registration nursing and midwifery students.
What type of projects will you fund?
We are looking for projects that address a clearly identified sustainability challenge and support more sustainable healthcare practices. Successful projects will deliver meaningful, lasting change that can be embedded into everyday practice and sustained over time.
Projects might focus on:
- Reducing single-use plastics
- Reducing medicines waste
- Improving resource efficiency
- Sustainable procurement
- Greener models of care delivery
- Travel and transport reduction initiatives
- Digital innovations that reduce environmental impact
