Introduction and background

In 2024, the RCN, RCNi and the RCN Foundation agreed a Group-wide EDI Strategy which you can find here

Our first EDI framework and plan, which included benchmarking information and clear targets, ran from 2022-24. This plan therefore marks the continuation of the Foundation’s own EDI journey, setting out our aims and activities for the period 2025-28.

At the RCN Foundation, we believe that equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are essential to achieving our mission and maximising our impact. We are committed to creating a fair and inclusive environment where everyone, whether a beneficiary, supporter, staff member, Trustee or partner, has the opportunity to thrive, free from prejudice and discrimination.

Our approach is built on the principles of fairness and respect, and is underpinned by the Equality Act 2010. We believe that embracing diversity not only strengthens our governance and enriches our grant-making but also leads to better outcomes and ensures we reflect and serve the full breadth and diversity of the nursing and midwifery workforce.

The RCN Foundation Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan sets out our commitment to embedding EDI across every aspect of our work and outlines the practical steps we are taking to turn our values into action.
