It can be hard to ask for help. Especially when you’re used to helping others. But everyone can feel overwhelmed, stressed and worried, especially about money.
As a current or former member of the nursing team, you’ve cared for the nation’s health and deserve to get support when you need it too.
Our Lamplight Support Service is a telephone advice and information line for nursing team members facing hardship.
Maybe you've been ill, had to stop working for a while, or have had to flee domestic violence.
A change in circumstances can mean you're entitled to different government benefits or a one-off Lamplight grant.
How can you help me?
We understand the system and can help you get the support that's right for you. Our friendly and professional Lamplight staff will provide you with tailored advice and information on:
what welfare benefits and tax credits you're entitled to
cutting costs, budgeting and increasing your income
how to put together an action plan to improve your finances
other services that could help you.
Am I eligible for a hardship grant?
You may be eligible for a Lamplight Support Service hardship grant if you're a current or former nurse, midwife, healthcare assistant and associate. In certain circumstances, we can help a nursing student. You don't need to be a member of the Royal College of Nursing.
To get a one-off grant, you’ll first receive advice and support to:
apply for all the benefits you're entitled to
increase your household income and reduce outgoings
access specialist debt advice, if appropriate
put together a budget
provide supporting documents, including bank statements.
