Exploring the Experiences of Annual Health Checks amongst People with Learning Disabilities: Informing Recommendations for Future Practice 

Liverpool John Moores University have been successful in securing £30,000 to undertake a research study which will explore the geographic and socioeconomic variations of the implementation, delivery and experience of annual health checks, specific to people with learning disabilities.  

Objectives

The study will:

  • Bring together a lived experience research group to co-design the research methods, gather data, and analyse and interpret findings
  • Utilise a desk-based literature and data review to explore the variation in the implementation of annual health checks amongst people with learning disabilities
  • Implement a survey to explore healthcare professionals’ experiences of delivering annual health checks to people with learning disabilities
  • Implement insight methods to explore people’s experiences of delivering accessing annual health checks, specific to those with learning disabilities
  • Use a participatory approach to develop recommendations to inform future practice and delivery of annual health checks for people with learning disabilities and for people delivering them.
