The RCN Foundation is an independent charity that aims to support and strengthen nursing and midwifery to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation. We work with the Royal College of Nursing and others to deliver our aims, but you do not need to be a member of the RCN to benefit from our support – the RCN Foundation exists for all nursing and midwifery staff.
The RCN Foundation has identified maternal and neonatal race inequality as a priority area for its work over the coming years. The evidence shows that personalised care is essential for good and safe midwifery practice, but such care can fail to reach Black and Asian mothers and their babies, often due to racial inequality.
As such, we’re looking to develop a programme of research and education which aims to give a voice to Black and Asian mothers about their experiences, and to support midwives to learn and better understand these experiences, supporting them to provide personalised, safer care for Black and Asian mothers and their babies.
Listen, understand, act
We would like to invite you to join a stakeholder panel where you will be given a chance to contribute to our work in this area. You will receive a gift token as a way of thanking you for your time and contribution. We would really welcome the opportunity to hear and learn about your personal experiences and where you feel the Foundation can have the most impact in this area.
We would like to take the opportunity to also share with you the work we have already undertaken to ensure we are moving in the right direction and that it reflects your own thoughts, feelings and experiences.
Join our Stakeholder Panel
We are keen to hear from mothers of all ages who have had a child within the last five years.
The stakeholder panel will take place via MS Teams on:
- Wednesday 11 February 11am-12pm
- Wednesday 11 February 12:30pm-1:30pm
If you would like to learn more about the proposed programme, or to join the panel, please contact Dr Sarah McGloin, Head of Grants and Impact.
We look forward to hearing from you.
