You can apply for five types of RCN Foundation Professional Development Grants:


Professional Developement Grants


RCN Foundation Professional Bursary Scheme

Do you have a place to start a course that will improve patient care? Apply for the RCN Foundation Professional Bursary Scheme to get a grant of up to £5,000 a year for your continuous professional development in:

  • Primary care nursing (up to £5,000)

  • Long term/chronic conditions (up to £5,000)

  • History of nursing (previously the Monica Baly Bursary Scheme, up to £1,000)

  • Occupational health nursing (previously the Mair Scholarship Scheme, up to £1,000)

Check if you’re eligible

To apply for the funding, you need to be either a:

  • Health care support worker working in the UK

  • Nursing associate

And:

  • Doing a UK accredited course with an eligible start date – between September of the year you apply and September of the following year.

RCN Foundation Leukaemia Care

As a haematology nurse, you can raise the standard of nursing for blood cancer patients. Our grant offers up to £5,000 to support your continuous professional development and work with patients and their carers.

Check if you’re eligible

To apply for the funding, you need to be a UK registered nurse and work with blood cancer patients. You’ll also need to be doing a course accredited by a UK higher education institution, with an eligible start date, between January 2020 and January 2021.

If you use needles in your work and are doing postgraduate study or a professional short course, you could be eligible for up to £1,000 through this grant. Your learning will need to improve patient care and develop practice.

  • Doing a UK accredited course, with an eligible start date

  • Able to demonstrate how you use needles in your work

This is a grant of up to £300 for nurses registered in the UK and working in Northern Ireland in any sector. You’ll be applying to do a course or programme that will improve patient care and develop practice.

RCN Foundation Into Nursing Grant

Could you make unique bonds with patients who put their trust in you when they’re at their most vulnerable?

A career in nursing could be perfect for you.

If you’re a graduate thinking about going into nursing, we can offer up to £2,500 a year to support you as you study a nursing degree.

Check if you’re eligible

To apply for this grant, you’ll need to:

  • Be a graduate in any academic discipline with an upper second- or first-class undergraduate degree
  • Be eligible to apply for a nursing degree or postgraduate diploma course with an eligible start date, or have already started the course
  • Already have experience of healthcare
  • Live in the UK and have firm intent to work in the UK
